Orlando Bloom comes back as Legolas in this prequel to The Lord of the Rings. His fighting skills are out of this world. His hate for dwarves is so ironic (if you are familiar with “The Lord of the Rings”). In this movie, they incorporated a new character, Tauriel. She is an elf, like Legolas, and fights almost as well as him. Martin Freeman, who plays Bilbo Baggins, is hilarious. His ability to act and make it seem like he is just himself, is amazing. Although, compared to the first movie, he makes fewer jokes in “The Desolation of Smaug.” Smaug. King under the mountain. Benedict Cumberbatch plays the perfect voice for Smaug. Every word he speaks puts you in awe. All the effects in this movie are the best. From the giant spiders, to the wargs, to Smaug, everything seems real enough for you to touch.
WARING! If you have a fear of spiders, this movie will for sure give you nightmares. With that being said, although there are giant spiders which look extremely disgusting, the special effects make it all worth watching, even if you get grossed out by them. If you love “The Lord of the Rings,” this movie incorporates characters and information, which leads to “The Lord of the Rings” trilogy. You will finally get to know who and what the Necromancer is!
As for the length, the movie is around 3 hours, 161 minutes to be exact. So be sure to go to the bathroom before it starts because every scene is very important, having information needed to know for the rest of the movie. “The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug” is definitely a movie worth seeing. It has everything from action to romance to suspense. It leaves you wanting for more by the time it ends. The 3-hour journey through Middle Earth will continue in December 2014! Be sure to continue on the adventures with Bilbo, Gandalf, Legolas, Thorin and all the dwarves, and Smaug.
